I was the first to post on this site way back in Sep 29, 2006 7:26 pm, and it looks like I’ll be the last.
DD finished her degree and left Uni full of hopes and dreams, it took a while for the reality to sink in, no jobs and very few prospects due to this country’s disgraceful practice of going all out to destroy it’s self. After over a hundred applications and innumerable ‘phone calls she finally gave up and went back to the post she had when she was16, £23,000 in debit and no chance of repaying it anytime soon. We explored the prospect of emigrating but that was not feasible, moving south but again not realistic, so here we are, was it worth it? Yes for the uni experience no for the degree although she will always have that in her back pocket.
I’m sorry if I sound bitter but, if I knew then what I know now, I would of talked her out of university and sent her on an apprenticeship to be an electrician or a joiner.
So that’s the end of our story, I’ll visit this forum in a couple of years and see if things have changed for the better, best of luck to your young adults…………I’ll turn the light out………… |

Not quite the last. I kept an eye on these boards for a while after my daughter started at Lancaster. She has just finished her first year and has gained a place to study in Iceland for a year.
I am sure these boards would be more used if they were easier to find. Could there be a link from the http://www.lancs.ac.uk/ front page? It would generate many more visiors.
I'm sorry to hear of sentenel's daughter's experience, hopefully prospects will improve, but I think it might take many years.
